Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to recover underground equipment
   • Access, interpret and apply underground equipment recovery documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm details of the recovery requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply environmental, geological and survey data
   • Assist in the preparation of a recovery plan
   • Estimate, obtain, transport and prepare materials and resources
   • Prepare worksite to ensure a safe work environment
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and take action
   • Arrange communications with other relevant site personnel
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Recover equipment
   • Coordinate with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures
   • Install recovery equipment/plant and special services
   • Communicate with other equipment operators and personnel using approved communication methods
   • Access and apply safety information and procedures throughout the work
   • Recover equipment systematically, using approved methods and equipment, with minimal loss and damage to equipment
   • Identify and address hazardous and emergency situations
   • Place recovered equipment into the designated holding area
3. Carry out operator maintenance on recovery equipment/plant
   • Carry out recovery equipment inspections and fault finding
   • Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks
   • Carry out minor maintenance
   • Provide operator support during preparation for, and conduct of, major maintenance tasks
   • Process records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

demonstrates completion of conducting line of site remote operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown activities

installing recovery equipment, plant and special services

recovering equipment

completing equipment inspections and fault finding

completing operational servicing, lubricating and housekeeping

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in recovering underground equipment through:

accessing, interpreting and applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

operational safety

mine operations

recovery site control

operational signalling

mine communication systems

identifying geological and environmental conditions in the recovery area

identifying potential hazards and taking remedial or response actions

identifying and applying a range of recovery methods

applying loss and damage causes and control techniques
